Abita Jockamo IPA

Abita Brewing Company, Abita Springs, LA

Jockamo is an American India Pale Ale brewed with pale, red, and caramel malts.  This copper-colored ale is liberally hopped and dry hopped with Willamette and Columbus hops.  The flavor is bold like the “Mardi Gras Indians” who march through New Orleans in suits of feathers and beads.

6.5% ABV

Jockamo smells mostly of fruit, not a lot of hops.  It is reddish-copper in color.  It is Father Jack’s favorite of the Abita IPAs.  The taste is not terribly bitter, but the bitterness is there.  It is consistently bitter throughout.  Father Jack gets some fruit on the back end.  Large Marge vaguely recalls having this many moons ago, before she was into bitter beers.  At the time, she found it too bitter and undrinkable.  Today, Large Marge gets an aspirin taste on the back end, but it is not undrinkable.

Would we have it again? SPLIT DECISION

Father Jack really likes the Jockamo.  Large Marge prefers the Wrought Iron IPA.

Would we get a 6 pk?  No, there are other IPAs we would rather have.
