Founder’s Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale

Founder’s Brewing Company, Grand Rapids, MI

DSCF2919

So good it’s almost wrong.  Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts.  Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to.  Ain’t for the wee lads

8.5% ABV

Hazy brown in color with a very light malty nose for a Scotch Ale.   A big beer, but very subtle for a Scotch Ale: the most subdued that we have tried.  All the markers for a Scotch Ale are there, but they seem to be hanging out in the background.  This is a good example of the style but seems to be lacking something.  We prefer Monday Night or Oskar Blues versions, frankly.

Would we have it again?  Yes, but it would not be our first choice for a Scotch Ale

Would we get a 6-pack?  No
